After-dinner mint in frozen form
Fresh mint, cocoa powder, optional dark chocolate. Drop one into milk, coffee, or hot chocolate. Refreshing and indulgent at the same time.
What you need
- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 cup water or milk
- Optional: 1 tablespoon honey or chocolate chips
- Ice cube tray
How to make it
- Muddle mint leaves to release oils
- Warm water or milk slightly
- Whisk in cocoa powder until smooth
- Add mint leaves and honey if using
- Let steep for 5 minutes
- Strain out mint leaves (or leave them in for stronger flavor)
- Pour into ice cube tray, add a chocolate chip to each cube if using
- Freeze for at least 4 hours
How to use
Drop into hot milk for mint hot chocolate. Add to coffee for a mocha mint latte. Melt into cold milk for a refreshing chocolate mint drink.
Why this works
Mint and chocolate is a classic combination. Fresh mint is brighter than extract. Cocoa powder adds richness without being too sweet.
Practical tip: If you don't have fresh mint, use 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract instead. It's stronger, so start with less.
